Google Partner Logo - Is Your Adwords Manager A Liar?
by Jo Shaer, on April 6, 2016
I'm afraid I'm going to have to have a rant about the Google Partner logo.
There are a lot of website designers, marketers and Adwords management companies out there who are displaying Google's Partner badge either incorrectly or without having the right to do so.
Does your supplier have the right to display the Google Partner logo?
The rules say that, if you have passed the Google Certification examinations AND you handle a certain amount of Pay Per Click budget - this figure is specified by Google - Google will let you know that you are eligible to display the Partner logo on your website. However, if you do display this badge, it MUST link to the Partner page relating to your business on the Google's Partners' website.
If the company that is managing your Adwords account is displaying the Partner logo on their website, you should click on it and see what happens. If it only goes to the Google Partners home page, you have a problem.
Either your supplier has not read the rules properly, which then could cast doubt upon their ability to keep up with the latest trends and changes in the management of your account.
Or they are lying about the fact that the company is actually an approved Google Partner and, worse still, they may not even have passed the Adwords certification exams which qualify them to be able to manage your account at all.
Is your PPC Marketing actually being managed by an Adwords Certified professional?
Worse still, our experience has been that even companies who do display the Partner badge correctly may have only one person in the company who has actually passed the examinations. And your account may not be managed by that person but by a junior member of staff.
As I explained here, the Adwords certification examinations take up to four hours just to take the exam and then there is all the reading of the study guides that needs to be done beforehand. With all the changes that have taken place in the first quarter of 2016, it is vital that your monthly ad spend is being handled by a professional who is up to date on all latest developments. And has qualifications in all the different elements of Adwords - Search, Display, Mobile, Shopping and Video.
When you are spending large amounts of money each month just for the privilege of having your account managed - and this does not include any cost per click budget - you need to be sure that this work is being carried out by an experienced professional who has the skills to get you the best return on your investment.
You have been warned.
It would be foolish not to go to the website of your supplier and click on that logo. Then you should at least ask the questions to reassure yourself that your money and trust are being well placed.
1. Are you Adwords certified - please can I see the certificate of the person who is managing my account?
2. Are you a registered Google Partner - can I see your Partner page on the Google site?
Why the Partner badge does not mean your website designer is in partnership with Google
The Partner logo can only be displayed by businesses who have shown that they have the requisite skills to offer Google Adwords, the Pay Per Click/paid advertising arm on Google. It is not a reflection that your web designer is approved by them for web design or organic SEO.
In particular, it does not mean that they get any special attention from Google for ranking their clients' websites!
What is Google Adwords?
Google Adwords is the service that allows businesses to pay to put an advertisement on the front page of Google's search results for a given search term. The business enters an auction and agrees the price that they are prepared to pay to Google if someone clicks on their ad.
It can be an extremely valuable part of any Inbound Marketing marketing campaign.
