I received my annual email from the ICO today. Things have changed slightly but most businesses will still need to join up.
Here’s what you need to know:
Does my Fire & Security Company need to register?
1. If your Fire & Security company processes personal information, you need to register with the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office). And pay a fee.
‘Personal information’ means any detail about a living individual that can be used on its own, or with other data, to identify them. It applies to both your employees and your customers.
2. If you use CCTV on your business premises for the purpose of crime prevention, you need to pay a fee to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

How much will it cost?
Since the new GDPR rules which came into force in May 2018, there are three tiers of fee.

It is a criminal offence not to register with the ICO and companies are being fined thousands of pounds for not doing so.
