I received my annual email from the ICO today. Things have changed slightly but most businesses will still need to join up.<\/p>\n

Here’s what you need to know:<\/p>\n

Does my Fire & Security Company need to register?

\"is-your-fire-security-company-registered-for-data-processing\"<\/p>\n

1. If your Fire & Security company processes personal\u00a0information<\/strong>, you\u00a0need to register with the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office). And pay a fee.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Personal information\u2019 means any detail about a living individual that can be used on its own, or with other data, to identify them. It applies to both your employees and your customers.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. If you use CCTV on your business premises for the purpose of crime prevention<\/strong>, you need to pay a fee to the Information Commissioner’s Office.<\/p>\n

How much will it cost?<\/h3>\n

Since the new GDPR rules which came into force in May 2018,\u00a0<\/span>there are three tiers of fee.<\/p>\n

It is a criminal offence not to register with the ICO and companies are being fined thousands of pounds<\/a> for not doing so.<\/p>\n
