Create A Google + Account

by Jo Shaer, on February 19, 2013

After my presentation last week for Southend Women In Business, several asked me how they should go about creating a Google Plus account.

Well, if you already have a gmail account, a YouTube account, a Google Places page or a Google Analytics account, the chances are that you already have an account, you just need to find it.

You need to go to and sign in using the login details for any of your Google-based accounts. This should take you through to your Google Plus page, where you can start customising your personal profile.

If you have none of the accounts listed previously, fill out the details at the top right of the page where it says - Don't Have An Account? Sign Up.

You will need to fill out fields for your christian and surnames and then a user name ****

Often this can be the hardest part as it is now much harder to get the gmail account for your exact name due to the number of users already with gmail accounts. You may need to add some numbers and Google can be quite helpful in pointing you in the direction of usernames that are not already taken.

You will also need to add in your birthday, mobile phone number and an alternative email address.

These are all measures that Google has had to bring in to try to prevent the scammers from creating large numbers of fake accounts and writing reviews for local businesses on Google Places - now merged with Google Plus.

Some might say that it also helps Google's vast database if they can have that type of personal identifcation and contact information for all its users.

Access Your Google+ Account

And make sure you put me in your circles. Find me here

One of the bonuses of being a part of Google Plus is that you can take advantage of HangOuts - ways of getting together online in groups and being able to both see and hear all the contributors. It's certainly something we're going to be looking at over the next couple of weeks. You can see it in the list of options in the left hand sidebar of your profile.
