Essex Means Business 2015

by Jo Shaer, on July 13, 2015

Following on from our post about the problems with promoting the Essex Means Business event on LinkedIn, here's a video highlighting some of the best bits of businesses in Essex.

Essex Means Business 2015

The event was held on 25th June 2015 at Ford Technical Centre in Basildon and brought together entrepreneurs, councils and education/skills providers with businesses of all sizes.

Councillor Kevin Bentley, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Economic Growth & Infrastructure, who led the Essex Means Business event, told everyone that David Cameron, the Prime Minister, had said that where Essex leads everyone follows. Councillor Bentley stressed that this was because of the way business in Essex works with councils and education to focus on economic growth.

Keynote Speaker, Richard Daniel, the CEO of Raytheon UK in Harlow highlighted the problems with skills shortages. He spoke of how his business was collaborating with other organisations in Essex to drive some initiatives to provide a future workforce with engineering and advanced manufacturing skills. These included apprenticeship investment, weekly STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) clubs in schools, especially for women and the Quadcopter Challenge.

  • Is your company suffering from a skills shortage?
  • Does your public persona look appealing to men and women who might help your business moving forward?
  • Could you use social media to get in front of people who might not be actively looking for a job at your Company?
