Brand, Storefront or Service Area Page On Google My Business?
by Jo Shaer, on June 2, 2014
Google+ Local or Google+ Business page is the question that caused the most problems during my first Google+ training course.
And then Google decided to change Google Places/Plus Local to Google My Business and all the rules changed again.
So, for my second Google+ training, the biggest question became:
Storefront or Service Area Page on Google Plus/Google My Business?
If you meet your customers face to face at your location, you need a Storefront page - the old Google Places/Plus Local page.
If you meet your customers at their location, you need a Service Area Page - the old Google Places/Plus Local page where you did not check the box saying you served customers at your location
If you are an online business and don't physically meet with your customers or if you are any other type of business entity like a music band, you should create a Brand Page. The categories are Product/Brand, Entertainment, Community, Other.

Create A Page For Your Business on Google Plus/Google My Business
If you are an online business, product or brand, community, entertainment or other entity that does not meet customers face to face, find out how to create a Google+ Business page.
Yes, I know you would prefer a Storefront or Service Area page because they show up on mobiles in the local listings. But if you go down that route, Google will suspend your page.

Storefront pages on Google Plus/Google My Business
These are for hotels, retail outlets restaurants, etc. Use this if you meet with your customers face to face at your location and you are available at any time during the opening hours specified.
Service Area pages on Google Plus/Google My Business
Use this if you go out to visit your customers at their location. So, for example, plumbers, pizza delivery, taxis. Google My Business are also including lawyers in this one - I await further information on this.
Working from home as a Google Plus Business Page
This is also the category to use if you work from home. Working from home means you do not have a Storefront - unless you have a large sign advertising that your business operates out of your home and you are available for anyone to just pitch up without an appointment.
