My Email Messages To You Are Bouncing Back - Is The File Size Too Big?

by Jo Shaer, on November 17, 2012

Over the last few weeks, I have had a couple of incidents where people have asked me why email messages might be bouncing back.

Invariably the problem is file size.

It's different if you are sending a big file to some of the bigger providers like gmail, hotmail, yahoo - these tend to accept files up to 25MB in total and some are unlimited.

But, if you're sending a large file to a domain-based email address, the hosting providers for these will usually have some form of limiter in place. Usually set at about 10MB.

When sending photographs or any document containing photographs or other images, you should try to resize these for the web to ensure that they will get through to a domain-based email.

Alternatively, set up a free dropbox account and invite the person concerned to join you there if you are regularly sharing large files.
