The new client wanted to keep a copy of her existing website as a memento but she was on a Mac. Fortunately Google is always ready to provide that type of information at the click of a button.
Screen Grab Mac
When asked the question screen grab mac, this was the top answer:
Command-Shift-3: Take a screenshot of the screen, and save it as a file on the desktop
Command-Shift-4, then select an area: Take a screenshot of an area and save it as a file on the desktop
Command-Shift-4, then space, then click a window: Take a screenshot of a window and save it as a file on the desktop
Command-Control-Shift-3: Take a screenshot of the screen, and save it to the clipboard
Command-Control-Shift-4, then select an area: Take a screenshot of an area and save it to the clipboard
Command-Control-Shift-4, then space, then click a window: Take a screenshot of a window and save it to the clipboard
So, I told her to hold down Command and Shift and 3 but it didn't seem to work. Then she closed her browser and it had appeared underneath. So, if at first, it doesn't succeed, close a few windows as the screen grab may be hiding on your Mac.
To balance things out, I ought to offer the answer for a screen grab on a PC.
Screen Grab PC
In response to the search term screen grab pc, Google deemed the most relevant response to be:
Press the PrtScn (print screen) key on the top right of your Windows keyboard. If you want to capture only the window you are on, then you should press the Alt key at the same time as PrtSc.
At first you will wonder why nothing has happened because it copies an image of your screen onto the "clipboard," ready to paste into any graphics program. If you open Windows' standard image editor, Microsoft Paint, you can go to the Edit menu and Paste the image there. If prompted to enlarge the image, choose Yes or you can use the crop tool to cut out unnecessary portions of the screen shot.
Next, go to the File Menu and choose Save As. Navigate to the folder where you want to save the image and type in a name for the screen grab. Select a file type. Click Save.
So that's screen grab Mac and screen grab PC - sorted!
