Small Business Web Design and SEO
by Jo Shaer, on September 6, 2012
I have a fabulous small business web design but I'm not getting any customers from it. What's going on?
Have you checked how much SEO has been done on it?
Why a web design for a small business needs SEO
Search Engine Optimisation is crucial if you want to get found by Google, Yahoo and Bing.
It's all very well having a beautiful website but if your web designer doesn't know how to poke Google to tell it you're there, then you can be left with a white elephant that is doing you no good at all.
You need to identify your keywords and then optimise each page so that the keywords are positioned in the places that the Google spiders and bots know where to find them.
For small business web design, it's no good just putting random generic words that you think people might search for into the metadata. You need to do some research to find out exactly what people are typing into Google and then optimise your site for those words. The keywords need to go in the metadata so the Google bots know what your site is about, but they also need to go into the content of each page so that there is a direct correlation for the spiders between the instructions of the metadata and the words on the page.
But then you also need to have backlinks pointing at your site from other quality sites to prove to Google that humans find you relevant too. That's the best way to build up authority and trust in Google's eyes. If you can get people to comment on your posts and share the content from your web pages, better still.
